Suspense is a state or feeling of excited or anxious uncertainty about what may happen next in a story. Foreshadowing is something to be a warning or indication of something.
Suspense examples:
1. Nobody in the story really knows or has seen the owner of Indian Island. "I haven't seen my employer yet" pg. 17 2. Mrs. Rodgers turned to go and her footsteps were really noisy, she drifted through the room like a shadow. pg. 13 3. "And After......???" pg.36 4. When Mrs. Rodgers is seen as a mysterious image in her mirror.
Foreshadowing Examples:
1. When the old man warns Mr. Blore about the island." He's nearer the day of judgement than I am." pg.16
2. Vera Claythorne finds the nursery rhyme on the wall. "Over it, in a gleaming chromium frame, was a big square of parchment, a poem."
3."Can't land on Indian Island when there's a southeasterly. Sometimes 'tis cut off for a week or more." Pg. 31
4."Just possible he might have something to do with the pictures" p. 26
